Knitting: Dave socks by Rachel Coopey in Patons Patonyle
These socks resulted in the most comments I’ve ever had on a post last week – and it’s not surprising, they’re very eye-catching.
A couple of people commented that they love neon and bright colours, but they’re not sure what to knit with them. I wanted to write up a post of ideas for neon knits, but I have two end-of-year assignments due this week, so it fell by the wayside.
I will write it up this weekend – if you have any ideas for the best patterns to incorporate neon knits, please leave a comment below!
Reading: The Big Smoke: New Zealand Cities, 1840–1920 by Ben Schrader
I really need to get stuck into this more. Because I feel like a ‘should’ be reading it, I’m baulking a little bit, which is ridiculous, because I am enjoying it.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
This is my bedtime reading. Recommended by a flatmate. I’m a few chapters in and enjoying the quirky style and trying to work out who the gods are.
See what everyone else is knitting and reading over on the original Yarnalong.
Oh please write write that post. I have a a skein of that yarn that will be sports socks, unless I get some inspiration.
Ohh, looking forward to that!
I love neons + neutrals, especially for garments or accessories that’ll be nearer my face than socks! So a oatmeal shawl with a section of neon green … a grey sweater with highlighter yellow pockets, etc. You know how much I love grey/oatmeal — you add a pop of neon, and I’m a goner!
American Gods is one of my favorite books; I hope you like it.
I look forward to the post on using neon yarn. I’ve never thought to use it, though now that I cycle to/from the train station I’m tempted to knit a neon hat & leg warmers.
This hat would lend itself very well to using neon: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/drips
